Why You’ll Love This Recipe

You can of course make a classic vanilla sauce for this recipe, but I used a quick “cheat” version made with custard and a splash of milk. Delicious and ready in under a minute! It makes your Easter French toast even easier.

Recipe Ingredients

The type of bread you use for French toast is a personal choice. Slightly stale bread works for best texture, and I personally like using sturdy breads like sourdough. But honestly, any type of bread will work.

  • Eggs – you’ll need eggs to make the custard mixture. I used large eggs
  • Milk – whisk the eggs together with the milk (heavy cream works too!)
  • Chocolate Easter eggs – choose your favorite: dark, milk, or white chocolate
  • Vanilla pudding – mixed with a splash of milk, this makes an easy vanilla sauce

Of course these are just the basics. You can easily add a bit of brown sugar to the egg mixture, add fresh berries like strawberries or blueberry. A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg is also delicious to add. A little pinch of salt is also tasty.

How to Make Easter French Toast

Making French toast is super easy. Whisk together milk, eggs, and cinnamon until combined.

Briefly dip each slice of bread into the mixture. It helps to pour the mixture into a shallow dish so the bread fits easily. A large bowl will also work.

Heat a skillet with some butter or oil and add the bread slices to the pan. Bake the French toast in the pan until golden brown.

To make the vanilla sauce, whisk the custard with a splash of milk until smooth and pourable.

Sprinkle chopped chocolate Easter eggs over the French toast and serve with the vanilla sauce. Done!

FAQ Easter French Toast

I wouldn’t recommend it. This is a quick recipe and tastes best when freshly made. You can reheat it, but fresh is definitely better. If you’re storing the french toast, keep it in the fridge covered in plastic wrap.

I prefer a sturdier bread, but you can use anything, from brioche to sourdough to French bread..

It depends on the bread. You don’t want it to get too soggy and fall apart. Usually a few seconds per side is enough.

Cooking doesn’t take long, just a few minutes per side.

Anything you like! Milk, dark, filled, or white chocolate. Just keep in mind it may affect how sweet the dish is. I used dark chocolate eggs myself.
