The morning kick coffee smoothie
I can’t really imagine starting the day without a cup of coffee. Well I cán but I don’t necessarily want to… Too good. It’s also a little bit our quiet moment before the madness of the day starts. Waking up with a cup of coffee in bed, ipad on my lap for the latest news and social media stuff before we rush off and go do our own things. And because I seem to be on a smoothie roll lately it seemed a good idea to do something with coffee and a smoothie. A coffee smoothie so to speak. Not something you hear everyday right? Or at least I don’t hear it everyday.
But using only coffee didn’t sound all that special. Banana with coffee? Orange juice with coffee? No thank you very much. Chocolate with coffee? Now we’re talking! That sounded a whole lot better. I have two books that I use a lot for finding flavor combinations and I love them. They’re both in Dutch but there must be something similar out there in English I’d think.
Initially I put chocolate, coffee and almond milk together but it was a bit too bitter for my taste plus more like an icecoffee than a smoothie. Adding a banana to the mix did the trick. It gave it just that little bit of sweetness it needed. Not a lot though as it is not a sweet smoothie by any means but it is goooood!
For the coffee lovers among us I would say you have to give this a try. You can very easily vary the flavor by adding more coffee or stronger coffee, more chocolate, less chocolate… I loved it. Breakfast and coffee all combined. It doesn’t get any better than this!

Mmm, coffee. Never had it in a smoothie, but love the idea. And coffee combines so well with chocolate, doesn’t it? So nice — thanks.
