Easter bread with cheese and egg

Wow, I cannot believe we are etching very fast towards Easter. What ever happened to time? I’ve been all wrapped up in exciting new projects of which I’ll be sharing some more soon. It’s been busy with work too and while I have a ton of Easter recipes lined up, I’ll be likely posting them after Easter.. Lol…

But this particular one I could not leave behind as that is so Easter specific it would be silly posting it the day after Easter right?

Making the bread

Making this delicious Easter bread does take a bit of time, as most bread recipes do. It needs kneading and rising but the end result is worth it. The eggs can be left out as it is purely decorative. I don’t think they’ll be really edible after having spend so much time in the oven. Let me say I didn’t actually eat them.

If you’re looking for something quick to make during Easter I would suggest making these chocolate buns instead, which are one of my favorite cheat breads to make! But if you have a bit more time on your hands these Easter bread rolls are perfect too.

Rolling the breads

Now the fun part of this Easter bread is the rolling. And the fact that you use lots of cheese in between all the layers. You divide the dough once it has had time to rise in three equal parts. Each part is then rolled out into a rectangular shape. Leaving the top part of the shape free you sprinkle the rest generously with the grated cheese.

Now rolling from the long side you roll each of the shapes into a sausage roll (that’s a lot of roll. Haha) Place the seam down and press the edges of the seam together. Using a sharp knife you slice the roll lengthwise in two but leave it attached on top. Twist the two strings around each other and into a round shape. It’s ok if it is not perfect, but try to keep the cut side up. Once baked it will still look good!

Baking the Easter bread

Once the Easter bread is rolled you press the egg in the middle and brush the bread with a bit of egg wash. Bake in a preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until it looks golden brown.
