Blueberry banana smoothie bowl

I gotta be honest here; when the smoothie bowl first started appearing everywhere I thought it was somewhat silly. Yes, they looked very pretty but why would you eat something as easy as a smoothie with a spoon? Or so I wondered. So I figured it was just a silly way to make food look pretty and ‘instagramable’.

Better digestion

Only much later did I find out that eating your smoothie with a spoon, which you would need to do with this blueberry banana smoothie bowl, you actually enhance the digestion of all those goodness. You see the digestion of carbs starts in your mouth. So drinking it will almost bypass your mouth and eating it will make for a much better digestion.

So if you want to get the most out of the nutrients in your smoothie bowl? You eat it with a spoon and take some time to enjoy it too!

Add toppings

In fact you can get even more out of your morning blueberry banana smoothie bowl by adding some delicious toppings. That will make you chew on it naturally. I love adding some healthy things like additional fruit, chia seeds, coconut flakes or grated coconut and the like.

Lately I’ve been adding more and more vegetables into my smoothie bowl (like in this sweet potato smoothie bowl) which makes it even healthier. Adding only fruit might get your blood sugar up too quickly so adding some healthy fats is always a good idea. Adding fiber like chia seeds or flax seeds will also slow down your blood sugar rush.

Add some healthy fats

My favorite addition to any smoothie bowl is half an avocado. That would also work really well in this blueberry banana smoothie bowl, although it’s pretty delicious as it is.
