Mix all ingredients (except the butter) through one another in a mixing bowl and make this into a dough. Add the butter in cubes and knead the dough until you have a pliable soft dough.
Grease a bowl with some oil and put the dough in.
Cover with foil and leave to rise for about an hour in a warm spot. It needs to roughly double in size.
Remove the dough from the bowl and divide into three pieces. Roll each piece to a rectangular size. Sprinkle the grated cheese over it but make sure to leave around 3 cm free on top. Wet this with a little water.
Now rol the dough into a long sausage shape. Put the dough with the seam downwards and cut in the middle but leave the top attached. Wrap the two strings around each other and end by rolling it into some kind of round form and make sure the cut side is on top. Press the egg in the middle
Preheat the oven to 190˚C (340˚F) and leave to rise for half an hour. Bake the Easter bread in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until golden.
