Lunch between the arts: Kunstlokaal – Maastricht
Having a lunch between the arts
Last week Alexandra and I were gone for a few days. That is nice every once in a while. We work together a lot so you might wonder if we’re not sick and tired of seeing each other week in, week out, but a non work related few days can result in really good plans.
We were invited to stay at Hotel Dis in the heart of Maastricht, in the south of Holland. She runs a small boutique hotel in the centre and from thursday till Sunday she also arranges delicious lunches.
In a city like Maastricht, there are plenty of choices for lunch but we did find that the Kunstlokaal is really something else and I would definitely recommend going there. It is light and fresh and you can gaze at beautiful art all around you. The art itself changes every 6-8 weeks, and while it was not all to our taste, there is a lot to like here. The space used to be an art gallery before but because visitors started to decline Niki decided it would be wise to give it an extra dimension by organizing lunches. She is doing that since the beginning of this year and the kitchen is simple but delicious.
Most of the items are healthy, fresh and homemade. And if you have an allergy or prefer not to eat gluten or dairy than just let Niki know and she will be able to cater to your needs as well. Wise to let her know upfront.
We had a delicious goatcheese salad, a combination dish with bread, cheese and homemade hummus, a wrap and we closed it off with a piece of pumpkin pie. I would have loved to try the high tea but hey, a girl can only eat so much right? We will save that for a next time!
Comfortable stay in the heart of Maastricht
A combination stay with the hotel is a great choice too. The Hotel Dis is beautiful and right in the heart of the city. You can literally walk everywhere you want to go. Also quite handy if you want to drop off your bags in between shopping… The hotel has a couple of parking spaces available as well (for extra cost though) so perfect if you’re driving in.
The rooms and also throughout the entire hotel you will find more art decorating the walls and the tables. The interior itself is beautiful and in a old historical building. Despite the age of the building it is really comfortable and has all the modern things you need. So if you’re going in that direction be sure to check it out!
Hotel Dis and the Kunstlokaal are situated at de Tafelstraat 28, 6211 JD Maastricht.
