Simone's Kitchen

Kitchen update!

If you also follow me on facebook then you’ve probably already seen some photos of the kitchen in progress. It’s been a pretty dusty last two weeks and I miss being able to cook a proper dinner! I had wild plans of eating healthy but this whole renovation thing is weirdly tiring. I mean, I don’t really do any of the hard work myself but both Tom and I are exhausted at the end of the day.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think in a large part it must be due to not having a home to come home to after a day of work. Normally you cook a nice dinner, have a chat, drink coffee, sit on the couch, watch some tv and do whatever other fun stuff people do in the evening. But for the last two weeks, I came home in a building pit sort of. And trust me, that doesn’t feel like home at all! Ofcourse, rest assured, I’m not complaining as I LOVE the look of the new kitchen sofar. It’s gonna be totally awesome once finished and so HUGE! (sorry I just have to use capitals here..;) )

The new floor is very pretty (it’s already there but hiding under cardboard at the moment to protect it) but I did a sneak photo before it was covered up again. The color is a bit grey-ish washed out wooden floor effect although it is in fact laminate. It’s totally wrong with the current floor in the living room but that will be replaced soon. We ran out of money or else we would have done the floor in one go.

The good thing is that at least we have a fridge again! That saves a lot of hassle lugging a cooling box around which didn’t really work very well. We’ve gone out for dinner a couple of times which was nice but now I’m so ready to start cooking again! Once the kitchen is finished (and that should be middle of next week) the walls still have to be painted, I need to think of what I want in front of the windows but those are all details.

I can’t believe how incredibly big the kitchen has become. It’s funny as we’ve only moved the wall 60 cm but it feels like a couple of meters are added to the space. And while the living room is smaller instead of larger, it feels larger due to the fact that the wall is not so high anymore. Giving a more spacious feel to the whole place.

Overall I’m really happy with everything. Also very happy with our kitchen supplier as they work very precise, have everything under their own roof with their own people so if you’re looking for a new kitchen I can only recommend Grando.

  4. How fabulous. A kitchen re-do from top to bottom. I love the mystery of what everything will look like at the end of it. Good luck! Once you are settled, you will totally forget all of the inconvenience.

    • I know! Now that the kitchen is starting to come together I’m already forgetting about all the dust (except for the fact that I’m not looking forward to the endless cleaning involved soon!)

  5. oh your new stove makes me miss mine so much ;-(( but I’m getting better with induction and steam every day!

  12. I’m absolutely loving it!

  13. Sooo jealous! About the new spacious kitchen (mine is tiny and packed – bad kitchen joojoo?), not the big mess. Having a stovetop running on gas is priceless!

  14. Having been through quite a few house renovations the last years I really feel for you. It’s amazing how tiring it can be just looking at your house in complete chaos, but it’s good that it’s ending soon and you’ll have a beautiful kitchen. By the way, what wouldn’t I do to have that big oven! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Wow! That’s what I call a playground! What a gorgeous kitchen Simone… I would kill for a range like that… LOOOOOVE the floors too! Can’t wait to see the finished product.
