Villa Aurenjo – Orange, France

Sometimes I have a really tough life… 😉 Case in point was my trip last week to sunny Provence by invitation of Villa Aurenjo, who needed some new photos taken for their new website. And I was so impressed with the beautiful location that I figured it would be logical to let you in on the secret. Because if you are looking for a fun and beautiful address to stay a couple of nights in Orange, than this is the place to be!

Trudy and Matthieu are the two young Dutch folks that have taken over the reign of this Chambre d’hotes since about three months. Trudy is the host and Matthieu is the chef. And believe me when I tell you that the man can cook! Because, all those delicious meals he made to photograph also had to be eaten after the photo was taken. I told you I have a tough life right? 😉

Gorgeous rooms

Vila Aurenjo is located on the edge of the town of Orange and from the villa it is literally a five minute walk to get there. If you’re a guest of the Chambre d’Hotes you can enjoy Matthieu’s culinary skills with a  (prebooked) table d’hotes but if you’re looking for something else, in the village are a couple of really nice restaurants to be found. Each thursday there is a market and in the month of August there is also a night market with live music.

Lots of edible stuff growing around the villa

And if you come back from a warm day in the area, you can relax on the terrace or go for a dive in the swimming pool. Or – if it’s colder – you can decide to use the sauna. The villa itself is situated on a large area with also a tenniscount, olive trees and a giant fig tree.

In the immediate area of Villa Aurenjo you can find more restaurants and you can always ask Trudy and Matthieu for any recommendations if you have trouble choosing. Orange is also located within one of the better known wine regions with Chateauneuf du Pape as probably one of the most famous wines from the region.

If you’re on the road to visit some of the vineyards (and Chateau Mont-Redon is a must see) then you can cool off and enjoy a delicious lunch at restaurant Le Verger des Papes.

All in all I can highly recommend this chambre d’hotes and I’m pretty sure I will be returning there next year with Tom this time. The villa is also ideally located if you’re traveling further south, as in our case, to Italy for instance. Good for a stop in between of a couple of days.
