Yes, you are seeing it correctly… Something totally non food related on my blog. Well, ok in a way it IS a little bit foodrelated as we all use plates, bowl and glasses to eat and drink from, so in that sense, it is food related after all. Right? It was sunday morning when I received a tweet from Alex if I wanted to come to Amsterdam in the afternoon for a Gettogether from Simply Slow… And as usual I said yes first and than decided to have a look at what it is I said yes to.
Simply Slow is a small organisation that arranges so called ‘Gettogethers’ where unique crafts and arts are having a central spot. It can be every day things like bread, coffee, a leather purse or as was the case this afternoon, ceramics.
It is always organised on a Sunday and often a few makers are invited. People that explain how they ended up doing what they love most, how they work, what they make and their philosophy. And let’s be honest it is always fun to have someone with a passion for what they do tell you about it.
I went in with an open mind as I didn’t really have a good idea what it was gonna be. Even though I had checked out the website. But I was really pleasantly surprised; like I said, always fun to hear people talk about their trade. This afternoon it was Herman Verhagen of JC Herman, AtelierNL and Mauk Studio.
Except the story telling part there was also a practical part where Mauk Studio was showing us how to process clay and we got to get our hands dirty… I’m not so much into clay so I stuck to taking pictures while Alex was doing her best to make a good clay mixture.
All in all it was a very nice and inspiring afternoon and I am certainly planning on attending a few more of these gettogethers. The chocolate one in december sounds like a must. But also the flowers and fishing sounds good too. If you want to know more check out the website of Simply Slow for the latest info on the gettogethers and how to register.
